Special Box: White Magic
– we don’t know a great deal about
the magic spells available for FFXIII’s playable characters, but we do
have
some basic info that gives an impression of the direction the game is
taking.
As ever, elemental magic will play a big part in battles; Fire (base on
flames), Blizzard (icy), Thunder (loud), and Aerial (strong wind).
There’s also
brand of magic called Firaga, which takes Fire magic to a further
level. Enabling
simultaneous attack against all enemies. In a more general sense,
Lightning and
her comrades will have four key options available to them in battle:
Attack,
Shoot (which makes use of gunblade), Defend, V strike (which can affect
Overclock
and Limit Hi Specials).
..Great examples of
Square’s non-RPG related abilities).
Battle are
key as ever, and it’s good to see that a real-time model has been
adopted in
FFXIII.What Toriyama didn’t go into, but which we’re already informed
about, is
FFXIII Over clock system. Over clock will enable the payer in your
control to
go hyper, for want of a better term. Once the circular gauge (pictured
in the
top right corner of FFXIII battle shots) is filled. And while your
character is
in this state, he/she will be able to move much more quickly than usual
while
characters in the field have their movement slowed to a crawl.
The game’s setting is
still largely under wraps, but from
having been to the recently jump Festa event we do know that much of
the game will
be set on a floating island called Cocoon. A separate world, used as a
refuge
for those who are evicted form cocoon called Pulse. The game’s plot
seems to be
more political than most other FF games, with a focus on how government
of
Cocoon and Pulse treating its citizens in its domain. Lightning and
other
controllable characters will no doubt spend much of their time fighting
against
evil elements of this government
